Benches in Uto, Finland

I spent a study abroad in Helsinki Finland, studying Finish architecture. During this period we spent a few weeks on the island of Uto, the most remote Finish island in the Baltic Sea. With a year-round population of 5- and a mere 15 minutes walk from end to end, Uto is an isolated place for reflection and solitude.

As a thank you to the island, our studio designed and built a series of benches for residents and visitors. The nine benches dot the island, positioned both in central locations and hidden spots that only the locals know of. The benches are similar in the design and construction, built completely out of local pine.
